Gregor Aichinger: Virginalia, 1607 - Ground-breaking
Excellent performances of ground-breaking music.
Vincenzo and Michelangelo Galilei -- Musiche per liuto
“Highly recommended to anyone curious about the origins of the Baroque.”
Pietro Antonio Locatelli Op. 7 Concertos make the transition
Did Locatelli succeed in transitioning? Not entirely. But he did create some works of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship. I enjoyed this release immensely.
Engaging performances of Barbara Strozzi by Aurata Fonte
Recommended to any lover of the Italian Baroque or early music in general.
Respighi Works for Flute and Orchestra work for me
Those early works only exist in manuscript, and it's not clear if they were ever performed. I'm so glad they are now!
Rafaele Carpino sources Mauro Giuliani guitar works
Carpini performs with precision and taste. His phrasing is elegant and often helps the listener follow the often-obscured melody.
Francesco Mancini Recorder Sonatas engage the ear
Daniele Salvatore has carefully researched this music, and that knowledge informs his performances. These sonatas sound fresh and spontaneous, with Salvatore expertly shaping the phrases to best effect.
Italico Splendore serves Vitali well
The Italico Splendore Ensemble performs these works beautifully. They linger lovingly over the slow passages, and the rapid movements are played with precise clarity.
