Dario Salvi Brings Marschner Center Stage
Salvi conducts the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble has an attractive sound. Details are easy to hear, yet the sound has a smooth, homogenous texture.
Gaby Pas-Van Riet Breathes Life into Schneider Flute Concertos
Schneider was a skilled composer, and I’m glad these works were revived. They definitely deserve the chance to find an audience once again.
Johann Mattheson "Joseph" -- contemplative masterwork
If you're only familiar with Handel's oratorios (like "Messiah,") give Mattheson's an audition. The genre was more varied than you might think.
Poul Ruders Dream Catcher - An Accordion Showpiece
I'd recommend this not only to those who like classical accordion music. And I recommend it to those who don't think they like it. These performances -- and this music -- may well change your mind.
George Crumb Metamorphoses -exceptional in every way
This is an exceptional release. It shows a composer as creative and innovative in his nineties as he ever was. I hope Bridge recorded more with George Crumb before his passing.
Aurelio Barrios y Morales let down by performers
If you want to explore the music of Barrios -- and you should -- this release is a must. But if you're like me, you'll have to listen past the performances.
Arthur Farwell - Listen, then Judge
Is Farwell guilty of a concept that arouse seventy years after his death? I don't think so. That's not what I heard in this music. My recommendation -- listen first, then decide. But do listen.
