The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour - Alan Silvestri

Film music sets the mood and helps elicit the emotional responses that make a good movie a great movie. Each week on CharlottesvilleClassical.org, The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour takes a listen to music from the wide world of film scores.

Back to the Future (1985)

As a student at the Berklee School of Music, Alan Silvestri had his sights set on becoming a jazz guitarist. But after two years he hit the road as a performer and arranger. When he hit Hollywood in the 1970s, he found work scoring for television shows, including the hit show CHIPs.

His work caught the ear of director Robert Zemeckis, who hired the young composer for his 1984 hit Romancing the Stone. This began a collaboration that has continued through both of their careers.

But Silvestri has covered a lot of ground with other directors and film franchises, including music for the Avengers film franchise.

On this week’s edition of The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour, we’ll enjoy music from Mr. Silvestri, including music from the Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and more. Tune in and join us!

Produced and hosted by Ken Nail, The Silver Screen Soundtrack Hour airs on Charlottesvilleclassical.org every Thursday at 9 AM and 6 PM, plus Saturdays at Noon. Visit our Facebook page, or contact Ken on Twitter at @ken_classical.
