Justin Dello Joio: Oceans Apart
I consider this an important release.
Kevin Puts - Dynamic City and Concerto
If you're looking for a work with rhythm, "The City" delivers.
Kaveli Aho Concertos Receive Outstanding Performances
Elina Vähälä is an exceptional performer. This is music that she's internalized. Her playing sounds more like a monologue than a series of notes.
GRAZYNA BACEWICZ: A PORTRAIT THAT FLATTERS
The essence of Bacewicz’s style can be found in her works for solo violin. They’re worth a listen (and definitely repeated listening).
Silvestrov: Requiem for Larissa personal and universal
This is a personal work. And yet the emotions it expresses are universal to all who have suffered a similar loss.
Canadian Soundscapes Resonate In Any Country
This is a strong program, with good performances. And it's a fine example of the great classical music being created to the north of us. Give this release a listen, and discover what we've all been missing.
Joanna Gutowska beautifully performs Kaija Saariaho
Joanna Gutowska is a fantastically talented performer. Her mastery of this material is superb. Her technique is flawless. And she seems comfortable interacting with the electronics.
James Lee III -- Fantastic Voyages
This gifted African-American composer has a rare talent for melody and orchestration. And he has a musical imagination that's well-served by those talents.
Simone Lamsma recovers Rautavaara's Lost Landscapes
I loved this release. But if you have yet to experience his music, I recommend "Lost Landscapes." It's just gorgeous music full of honest emotion.
