Fretwork Delivers with Matthew Locke's Little Consort
As performed by Fretwork, these suites have a distinctly English character. And that's part of their charm. I'm sorry I missed volume one. I'll add that to my want list. Don't miss this one.
Christopher Gunning Concertos - Enjoyable and Engaging
A fine addition to Signum's ongoing series of Gunning recordings. Christopher Gunning is an important film composer. These releases show him equally at home in the concert hall.
An Elizabethan Christmas - Fretwork's gift to all
Though the music is over four centuries old, it still has the power to soothe.
Gunning Symphony and String Quartet make an interesting pairing
Both works show Gunning's growth as a composer. And they show his willingness to challenge himself.
Roxanna Panufnik - Heartfelt chamber music
While the influences are many, the results are consistent. Panufnik refines her source material into something beautiful, and something that's uniquely her own. If you only know (and love) her choral music, "Heartfelt" is a must-have release.
Christopher Gunning Concertos deliver
The composer leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in these performances. To me, it seemed as if Gunning was talking directly to me through the soloists and the ensemble. And I liked what he was saying.
