#ClassicsaDay #NorthAmClassics Week 4, 2024
The #ClassicsaDay challenge for July is to post music by Canadian and American composers. Both countries have created their own forms of classical music, independent of Europe's.
Avalon String Quartet Gives Chicago Composers Some Love
The Avalon String Quartet present works seldom heard. And they're all works that deserve to be heard -- a lot.
Florence Price: Songs of the Oak Solidifies Reputation
John Jeter leads the ensemble in some spirited performances. I especially enjoyed the concert overtures and the dances.
#ClassicsaDay #FallConcert Week 2
For the month of September, you're invited to post a work that your local symphony, chamber music ensemble, or choral society will be performing this fall.
New York Youth Symphony Excel with Composers of Color
This is a fine album that I'll be revisiting many times. For the newer works, as well as the old ones.
Violin Concertos by Black Composers Reissue adds Florence Price
With the addition of Florence Price, Barton's survey of Black composers runs from the 1790s through the 1950s. To me, the reissue is a more comprehensive survey, and a more satisfying listen.
Florence Price Piano Music a Major Discovery
Price's orchestral works are important. But she was a pianist and organist of the highest caliber. This album shows that her keyboard music is also worthy of attention.

#Classicsaday #BlackHistoryMonth 2022 Week 1
