Victor Bendix Symphonies - Career Bookends
The Malmo Symphony Orchestra has some solid performances here. The energy level of the first symphony starts at exuberant and ramps up, really selling the work. They plays the third symphony with a lyric delicacy that is heart-breaking at times.
Nordic Quartet Excells with Gudmundsen-Holmgreen
The Nordic String Quartet performs each work to near perfection.
Rued Langgaard Symphony No. 1 — Epic
The Berlin Philharmonic delivers an exceptional performance directed by Sakari Oramo.
Per Nørgård Symphonies a present to us all
If you're new to Nørgård, then jump right in. You will be taken on eight sonic journeys that are absolutely unique. (and very, very, Nordic).
Nightingale String Quartet Continues Fine Vagn Holmboe Series
The Nightingale Quarte has a clear affinity for Danish composers. And their expertise in bringing this music to life. Volume one — and now volume two — of their Holmboe series reinforces those impressions
Nightingale Quartet starts Vagn Holmboe series
The Nightingale Quartet is off to a great start. They just finished their survey of Rued Langgard string quartets. Holmboe (stylistically) is the next logical step. I'm glad they took it.
Emil Hartmann Chamber Music - Worth Exploring
The performances are outstanding. Ms. Schneider and her colleagues are clearly invested in Hartmann's works. That passion is evident in these recordings. This is music -- and a composer -- worth exploring.
Vagn Holmboe Concertos -- Neo-classical richness
While this release is available as a download, I highly recommend the SACD version -- especially if you have an SACD player. These performances were lovingly recorded by DaCapo, and the fullness of the sound adds an extra dimension to these appealing works.
Magnus Lindberg and the New York Philharmonic
The works, the performances, and the recording itself is all top-notch. A triumph all the way around.
