Koussevitzky as Acccompanist

This Wednesday, Mar. 12 ,2025 at 9:00 am, Analog Masters features Serge Koussevitzky as a collaborative artist.

Koussevitzky is best known for his towering interpretations of the symphonies by Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Brahms. But he was also a perfect partner for some of the greatest virtuosos of his time.

Koussevitzky particularly enjoyed making music with his dear friends Pierre Luboshutz and Genia Nemenoff at Tanglewood. Their sparkling rendition of Bach’s Concerto in C for Two Pianos was recently released by Marston Records.

Koussevitzky and Jascha Heifetz recorded the Brahms Concerto twice. The first recording was rejected due to a technical flaw — it was recorded at the wrong speed! Today, that is easily corrected. The earlier recording was finally released in 2011 but only as part of a 100+ CD Heifetz compilation. That incisive performance concludes the program.
