Dixon paved the way for a generation of black conductors from Henry Lewis to Paul Freeman to James DePreist. Here he leads a Viennese orchestra in three great American scores: Chanticleer by Daniel Gregory Mason plus symphonies by Robert Ward and Randall Thompson.
