Classical Interviews – Brian Simalchik

brian simalchik600x600.png

Local composer Brian Simalchik is often considered to be a classical composer. But these days, he approaches composition experimentally, trying out new things and seeing where the musical thread takes him. He talks about the role that notation plays in defining and perpetuating classical music as well as some of the misconceptions and perceived limitations of classical music as a genre.

You can listen to his works on his website: briansimalchik.com
And tune into his radio show "A New Sound" at 7pm on Wednesdays on WTJU 91.1 FM and charlottesvilleclassical.org.

These interviews air as part of WTJU’s Classical Sunrise, weekday mornings from 7-9am.
